Day By Day Itinerary

Day 1: Kampala to Lake Mburo National Park

Early start – after briefing from our Igufa Safari’s guide, head out to Lake Mburo via the equator where you will have a brief stopover. Here you will experience “the water experiment” and enjoy a well-deserved coffee break before proceeding south west. Located close to the main road, this small yet rich habitat offers a pristine environment.

Arrive at you overnight camp in time for lunch. Set on a hill top with the park in plain view and if lucky, you can spot game right off your private porch in safe distance.

Later, go out on an evening game drive around Uganda’s smallest national park. Lake Mubro is the only Ugandan national park (besides to Kidepo Valley NP) which is home to zebra, eland and impala, as well as an abundance of other wildlife – the lake itself teems with hippos and crocodiles.

It is also home to 350 bird species, giraffe, buffalo, oribi, Defassa waterbuck, leopard, hippo, hyena, topi and reedbuck

Day 2: to Bwindi

After breakfast, transfer to Bwindi where you are expected to arrive sometime in the mid-late afternoon. Your journey will take you past vast vegetation over and through several upcountry towns before getting to the hilly and foresty Bwindi area.

Set in the shadow of the impenetrable forest, your lodge offers comfortable accommodation combined with stunning views of mother nature.

Day 3: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Forest

Today is the big day… prepare yourself for an encounter with one of Bwindi’s gentle giants: the endangered mountain gorilla. For most people this is the absolute highlight of their tour in Uganda.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest boasts both mountain gorillas and chimpanzees – the only forest in Africa which can make this claim. It also hosts five other species of primate, 113 species of mammal, over 200 butterflies and 360 birds. The gorillas you track belong to one of nine habituated family groups who can tolerate the presence of humans for a brief period every day.

The time taken to track the gorillas can be as few as 2 hours to as many as 5 hours. Once the gorillas have been located, your group will be allowed a maximum of one hour with them. Coming face-to-face with a mountain gorilla is a truly humbling and emotional experience. This is a fantastic and privileged opportunity to get up close and personal with Uganda’s very own ‘Gorillas in the Mist’.

Day 4: to Queen Elizabeth NP

Proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park after breakfast activity arriving early afternoon in time for lunch. Should the weather permit and road access be agreeable, we will explore the Ishasha sector along the way. This area is famous for tree climbing lions.

Arrive at your overnight lodge that is surrounded by the National Park and borders the Kazinga channel. Animals literary roam in and out of the camp and sounds of hippo’s and hyena complement the star lit dinners. This truly is Africa!

Day 5: Queen Elizabeth N.P.

Today you wake up early. A little before sunrise; this is a great time to view game before the sun is fully out. Breakfast will be served early or parked to go before we head out to get up close to wild Africa.

In the afternoon you will take a boat safari along the Kazinga Channel which joins Lake George and Lake Albert.

Here, you will see a lot of hippos (more than you can possibly imagine!), as well as a variety of other animals which come to the waterhole to drink or bathe. You can expect to see buffalo, crocodile, bathing elephant, and a range of beautiful birds. This will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of your tour. After the boat-safari you will game drive back to the lodge.

Queen Elizabeth is Uganda’s second largest park, located at the base of the majestic Rwenzori Mountain range, adjacent to Lake Edward and Lake George. The park has prolific game, including gazelle, Uganda kob, warthog and waterbuck. Lions are often sighted both in and at the entrance to the park. Be prepared for huge numbers of hippo and elephant, and keep your eyes peeled for a leopard lazing in the sunshine.

Day 6: Return to the city

Transfer to Kampala via Fort Portal arriving in the city 5 hours later.

END OF SERVICE.
