Day 3: Prague – Bratislava

Summary of The Day

Your Prague adventure begins with a spectacular walk along the Royal Route, following the traditional coronation path of the kings and queens of old Bohemia. 

You’ll start from the top of Castle Hill in the Hradcany district, famous for its views over the red-roofed old city, and then tour Prague Castle.

Your exploration then heads off around the imposing gothic St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal PalaceSt. George’s Basilica and along Golden Lane, an ancient thoroughfare lined with some wonderful traditional buildings. 

Later you will stroll across the iconic Charles Bridge, which arches gracefully over the Vltava, and on through the winding alleys to the Old Town Square, where you can see the City Hall and one of Prague’s most well-known sights, the Astronomical Clock.

After lunch in the square, you’ll make the scenic transfer from Prague to the hotel in or near the Slovakian capital, Bratislava.

Day 4: Bratislava – Budapest

Summary of The Day

Today we will arrive in Hungary. Its capital, Budapest, is known as the Pearl of the Danube. 

One of the best ways of seeing this unique location is by taking a river cruise. After a morning of activity, you’ll relax over lunch at Buda Palace, and then have a chance to look at the exhibitions in the Budapest History Museum and Hungarian National Gallery, or do a spot of souvenir shopping.

You’ll explore both sides of the city on a cultural and historical tour. We will first explore the western half of the city, where we will see Fisherman’s Bastion and Matthias Church. We will then cross to the eastern side, where we will stop at Heroes’ Square and Hungary’s Parliament Building.

In the evening, you can choose to round off an eventful day with an optional dinner in the heart of Budapest, where you can sample traditional dishes such as goose liver, goulash, duck leg and local wine, accompanied by Hungarian folk dance and music.

The Fisherman’s Bastion on the Buda side of the Danube River in Hungary is an incredible white-stone viewing terrace with conical towers. It was built in the 1890s and gets its name from the fisherman’s guild that once defended the area.

This impressive and dramatic Gothic cathedral in Budapest was built in the late 1300s, although local tradition claims it dates back to the 12th century. It houses an Ecclesiastical-art museum that contains replicas of the Hungarian royal jewels.

Day 5: Budapest – Vienna

Summary of The Day

Today starts with a short journey to another of Europe’s grand capitals, Vienna, where you’ll get to explore the Austrian city’s resplendent palaces, striking churches and prestigious art museums.

Your Vienna adventure begins at one of the city’s most popular attractions, Schönbrunn Palace

After lunch, you will take a driving tour past many grand, famous buildings, including the City Hall, the Austrian ParliamentHofburg Palace, and Heroes’ Square

In the afternoon, you’ll have some shopping time, before adding the Wiener Staatsoper (opera house) to your checklist of key Vienna buildings. 

Later, opt for dinner in the heart of the city or visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral, before taking a stroll in Stadtpark, which is known for its range of sculptures, including the famous gilded bronze statue of Johann Strauss II.

In the evening, we recommend the option of attending a Viennese waltz concert, which will allow you the unforgettable experience of hearing the music of Mozart and Strauss in the place where it was composed.

Schonbrunn Palace is both one of the most important cultural landmarks in Austria and possibly the most major of its tourist attractions. This 1,440-room Rococo estate and gardens was built by Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian II in 1569.

Day 6: Vienna – Salzburg – Munich

Summary of The Day

From Vienna, it’s on to another Austrian gem, Salzburg. The city’s beautiful historic center, listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, is characterized by numerous baroque buildings and is one of the most picturesque places in Europe. Salzburg is also famous for its musical heritage, being both the birthplace of Mozart and also connected with hit musical The Sound of Music. 

You’ll get the chance to see from the outside the house where Mozart was born, explore the city further at your leisure and also have lunch in Salzburg, before heading across the German border to Munich in the afternoon.

Vienna – Mondsee – Munich (440 km)

From Vienna it’s on to another Austrian gem, Mondsee. Mondsee is a town located on the shore of the Lake Mondsee. The town is home to the historic medieval Mondsee Abbey. The cloister church was used for the site of the wedding in The Sound of Music.

After lunch group will continue to across the German border to Munich. After arriving Munich, you’ll visit Marienplatz and New Town Hall. Marienplatz is a central square in the city centre of Munich since 1158. The New Town Hall is at the northern part of Marienplatz. It hosts the city government including the city council, offices of the mayors and part of the administration since 1874. Or you can enjoy a German beer in one of the beergarden before going to the hotel.

Mozarthaus – Mozart’s only surviving residence in the city of Vienna was the famous composer’s home from 1784 until 1787. The structure of the house dates back to the 17th century. It was completely renovated and the museum reopened in 2006.

Day 7: Munich – Mount Titlis – Lucerne – Zurich

Summary of The Day

You’ll leave the big cities behind on Saturday morning and head for one of the world’s most famous mountain ranges – the Swiss Alps. The first destination is Engelberg, the stunning Swiss resort. From here you can opt to board a cable carthat takes you to the summit of the impressive Mount Titlis. To reach the top of the permanently snow-covered Mt. Titlis is a combination of gondolas over 3 stages.

You’ll ascend the last stage by the world’s first revolving gondola the Titlis Rotair, that delivers spectacular views of the valleys, glaciers, lakes, and forests below, and 360˚ vistas of the surrounding mountains. At the summit, the sun terrace is the perfect place to pause and appreciate the breathtaking panoramas. There’s a 150-metre ice cavern through the core of a glacier to explore at the top. Other highlights include walking across Europe’s highest suspension bridge for more phenomenal views from Mt. Titlis.

You’ll come down from the hills to the lakeside for your next stop: Lucerne. Here you will have time to wander through the charming streets and see the famous Lion Monument. This is a great place to get souvenirs like Swiss watches and fine chocolates, before traveling to the overnight stop of Zurich or a city nearby.

NOTES

If weather or traffic permitting, we might take a photo stop in one of the smallest countries in Europe – Lichtenstein.

This spectacular Alpine mountain is significant for being the location of the world’s first revolving cable car. The cable car takes visitors to the top of the mountain and the station contains the entrance to a mesmerizing glacial cave for guests to enter.

Day 8: Zurich – Rhein Falls – Titisee – Frankfurt

Summary of The Day

Today begins in Zurich, a city with a reputation as a leading global financial center. There is a chance for a picture stop at the impressive Lake Zurich, before moving on to Rhine Falls, Europe’s biggest waterfall.

Next, we’ll cross back into Germany and the Black Forest, the ancient fir-covered mountain range which is famous for its creepy folklore and mythical tales. Here you will see the beautiful lake Titisee, where you can stop at one of the many lakeside cafés to enjoy some of the region’s best Black Forest cherry gateaux. Cuckoo clocks are made in Titisee, making this the ideal place to pick up a few souvenirs from the local shops, and you’ll also get to see a demonstration of how these magical mechanisms work.

Finally, you’ll stay overnight in Frankfurt or nearby.

This roaring Swiss waterfall not far from Zurich has been wowing tourists for centuries. It is about 75 feet tall and 450 feet wide, making it the largest plain waterfall in Europe. It has the largest flow in the summer.

It is a lake in the southern Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg. It covers an area of 320 acres and is an average of 20 m deep. It owes its formation to the Feldberg glacier, the moraines of which were formed in the Pleistocene epoch and nowadays from the shores of the lake.

Day 9: Frankfurt – Bonn – Cologne – Amsterdam

Summary of The Day

The morning begins with a leisurely drive north-west from Frankfurt to Bonn, the capital of the former West Germany until reunification. Discover the city’s secrets on an orientation stroll through its streets, walking past highlights such as the Rococo-fronted town hall and Ludwig Van Beethoven Haus.

Then we will go to Cologne, where you’ll head inside the city’s glorious Gothic Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The rest of the afternoon is yours to explore Cologne further, to do a spot of local shopping or to simply relax with a suitably refreshing German brew.

After lunch, the day is rounded off with a drive into the Netherlands.

Day 10: Amsterdam – Zaanse Schans – Amsterdam

Summary of The Day

A day of delights begins with a leisurely trip through the Dutch countryside, where you’ll get to sample at close quarters some of the things that the Netherlands is traditionally famous for clogs, cheese, and windmills. Call in at the hugely popular model town of Zaanse Schans

Next, you’ll head from the quiet countryside to the cosmopolitan city as your journey takes you back to Amsterdam.

After visiting a well-known diamond factory, where you’ll see the unique cutting techniques that have been practiced here since the 16th century, you can take an optional hour-long pre-dinner canal cruise, which is a great way to discover more about this unique European city. 

After disembarking you’ll walk to one of the city’s grandest areas, Dam Square, where the Royal Palace is located and the Queen’s birthday celebrations take place. You’ll have photo opportunities here, free time for shopping or further sightseeing, and then round the day off with dinner.

Day 11: Amsterdam – Brussels – Paris

Summary of The Day

After leaving Amsterdam in the morning, we’ll head south across the border into Brussels, the capital and political center of Belgium and the European Union. On the way, the tour stops to see the distinctive Atomium monument built for the 1958 World’s Fair. 

In the center of Brussels itself, guests will see the exquisite Grand Place, as well as the famous impish Manneken Pis statue.

In the afternoon, we will head towards French and enjoy the bright lights of Paris. 

Return Time

You will arrive at Paris Place d’Italie around 7:30 pm. The time is an estimate and varies based on traffic and weather conditions.

Atomium Monument – This bizarre building was constructed for the 1958 World’s Fair. It is quite literally designed to look like atoms, representing the atomic structure of an iron crystal. Each of the “atoms” in the structure is actually showrooms that can be reached via escalators and elevators cased within the atom connectors.

Grand Place – This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the main square in Brussels and the city’s most popular and most important tourist destination. It is bordered by several important buildings, including the dramatic Town Hall and Maison du Roi.

Manneken Pis – “Manneken Pis” literally means “Little Man Pee,” and that sums up this world-famous statue nicely. Dating all the way back to 1619, this statue is a fountain that depicts a little boy peeing into the basin below.

Schengen Visa Requirements For Kenyans and Other Nationalities 

We can process your Shengen visa application for you or you can do it yourself directly. If you choose for us to process your visa we charge a fee. For either option the application and requirements are the same please see below:

  • You must submit an Original passport(*) valid for travel to the Members States to visit. The passport validity must exceed the planned stay in the Schengen Area with at least three months. The passport must have been issued within the last ten years. Kenyan Citizens must have a valid e-passport. 
  • You must submit a completed and signed visa application form. Each person travelling with you on your travel document must submit their own visa form. Forms for children under the age of 18 need to be signed by a parent or guardian.
  • If you are under 18 and are travelling without one or both of your parents or guardians, ask them to sign a consent form. Border guards may ask to see this form when you arrive.
  • You must submit Complete photocopies of original passport, except blank pages.
  • If the applicant is not a resident of Kenya, a justification for lodging the application here must be provided.
  • Previous passport in original if a new passport has been issued within the last three years..
  • Photocopy of the national ID card (both sides).
  • One color photo(*) not more than six months old, passport size (45 mm x 35 mm), full face and taken against a light background.
  • When you submit your application your fingerprints and photos will be taken. These will remain valid for 5 years. Some applicants, such as children under the age of 12, do not need to have their fingerprints taken.
  • Preliminary ticket booking or travel itinerary (it is not necessary to buy a flight ticket at this stage). We will provide this for you.
  • Individual medical travel insurance which covers all costs that could arise as a result of emergency medical assistance, emergency hospitalization or medical repatriation. The insurance should cover costs of at least EUR 30,000 and be valid for the duration of the stay in all the Schengen countries Click here for a list of approved travel insurance companies.

Payment or proof of payment of the visa fee(*) (where applicable).

In addition to the above mentioned requirements, the application will be assessed on the criteria for which the relevant documents have been submitted:?

  •  the purpose of the journey;
  •  accommodation, or proof of sufficient means to cover accommodation;
  •  assessment of sufficient means of subsistence both for the duration of the intended stay and for the return to the country of origin or residence;

(*) If your application lacks any of the above documents marked (*) it is considered inadmissible and your documents, including application fee will be returned to you without further notice. (Visa Codex art. 19:3).

How much does a visa cost?

When you apply for a visa  you must pay a fee. The application fee are as follows:

  • Schengen visa child (under 6). Free of charge.
  • Schengen visa child (6 – 11 years). Ksh 3,900
  • Schengen visa Adult. Ksh 8,000

If you apply for the visa yourself directly the application fees above will be the only cost.

If you would like us to process your Schengen visa we charge Ksh 10,000. (excluding application fee)

How long does it take?

The earliest you can apply is 3 months before you intend to travel. You should apply no later than 15 working days in advance.

In most cases, you will be informed within 15 calendar days whether your application has been successful. Sometimes it can take up to 30 days if more time is needed, and up to 60 days in exceptional cases, for example if extra documents are required.

How will my application be assessed?

Some Schengen member states want to exchange information on visa applicants. This check (known as ‘consultation’) is mandatory for certain nationalities and can take up to 7 days.

Your application will also be checked in the Schengen Information System (SIS II). In addition, your application details will be checked and saved in the Visa Information System (VIS).

Cancellations Due To Visa Rejections

For customers who have availed the VISA letter from Journey Genius and wish to cancel the tour due to VISA rejection:

  * 45 Days (or) more – 16 Days prior to tour departure date — The tour cost will be refunded post deducting service fee of USD 70. Subject to if Airline tickets have been booked then the cost of the airline tickets will be non refundable

  * 15 – 07 Days (or) lesser prior to tour departure date — The entire tour cost will be forfeited & no-refund will be available

*Letter of VISA rejection issued by the embassy/consulate along with Journey Genius Cancellation Request Form form has to be emailed to info@journeygeniustravel.com  no later than 16 days prior to the tour departure date. Without which the cancellation request will not be processed.  

*Cancellation request will not be accepted if tour departure date is less than 16 days.

Cancellations For Personal Reasons After Receiving Visa Supporting Documents

For customers who have availed the VISA letter from Journey and wish to cancel the tour due to personal reasons post VISA being granted:

  * 45 Days (or) more – 16 Days prior to tour departure date — 75 % of tour cost paid will be refunded. If airline tickets have been booked then the cost of the airline tickets will not be refunded.

  * 08-15 Days prior to tour departure date — 50% of tour cost paid will be refunded. If airline tickets have been booked then the cost of the airline tickets will not be refunded

  * 07 Days (or) lesser prior to our departure date — The entire tour cost will be forfeited & no-refund will be available

*Copy of VISA issued by the embassy/consulate along with “Journey Genius Cancellation Request Form” form has to be emailed to info@journeygeniustravel.com. Without which the cancellation request will not be processed.  

*Cancellation request will not be excepted if tour departure date is less than 08 days.

Charges to modify an order apply for the following:

1) For requests to add more number of travelers

* Subject to availability of seats.

2) For requests to change to a different tour

* Possible only 31 days prior to the tour departure date.

* Cancellation charges as above will be applicable over & above the modification service fee.

3) For requests to reschedule tour departure date

* This request will not be accepted if the travel date is within 07 days or lesser.

* Subject to availability of seats.

* Cancellation charges as above will be applicable over & above the modification service fee.

* Subject to airline modification fees if accepted by airline.

4) For requests to change name of passengers. Only Possible if Airline tickets have not been booked. Subject to individual airline policy and the airlines fees for change of name.

US $ 70 will be charged for each order

Requests made 07 days (or) lesser from the date of tour departure

No requests will be accepted & No Refund

3. Notes

1) We recommend all our passengers to avail “Travel Insurance” to protect themselves against personal / natural / man made exigencies of all kind (including medical & family emergencies, accidents, flight delays, traffic delays, theft or personal- acts of terrorism, natural calamities etc.) that may affect you from participating in our tours (OR) arise while on tour.

2) Journey Genius will take no responsibility for matters as stated above under personnel / natural / man made exigencies.

3) No part / full refund / compensation will be offered to passengers who miss taking our tours (OR) for any un-utilized services, as per the date / time scheduled on the E-Voucher because all services are reconfirmed and prepaid for Charges as mentioned in our “Cancellation / Modification and Refund Policy” would be applicable.

4) All cancellation & tour modification requests should be emailed to info@journeygeniustravel.com.

5) We will not accept any cancellation / modification requests made through local tour provider / tour guide (OR) verbal requests made over the phone to our customer support staff / by voice mail

6) Cancellation request emails will not be accepted unless they have a complete, signed and attached “Journey Genius Cancellation Request Form“.
